Remembering the 90's

If you grew up in the 90's then you probably have a favorite 90's song, movie, TV show, or band. I was born in 1991, but having two older sisters I was exposed to a lot of greats from the 90's. I watched and loved TV shows like Boy Meets World, Hey Arnold, Are You Afraid of the Dark, Doug, and many many more. So many great movies came from the 90's like Schindler's List (1993), Pulp Fiction (1994), Forrest Gump (1994), Shawshank Redemption (1994), and of course Toy Story (1995). There are countless tunes that everyone loves that came from the 90's. Here is VH1's top five: Nirvana - Smells Like Teen Spirit (1991), U2 - One (1991), Backstreet Boys - I Want It That Way (1999). Whitney Houston - I Will Always Love You (1992), Madonna - Vogue (1990). To check out the complete list visit VH1's 100 Greatest Songs of the 90's.

As part of my assignment for class I would like to gather as many 90's memories as possible, so if you're willing to take five minutes to share, please do!!

The 90's is packed full of memories for most of us. I want you to share yours! Post a comment to this blog and let us know what you loved, or didn't love about the 90's!

  1. Well at Kodys, there were all sorts of things! I remember always watching Scooby Doo, or Myle's Power Ranger movies! She also had the garbage compactor that we would all beg to be able to use. Then there was nap time on the living room floor, and as were were supposed to be sleeping Kody would watch the 90's Soaps. Then after that we would all go outside and play with the dogs, but don't get near the back hill cuz thats where the poop was always scooped! She also always had those push popsicles that we would have outside on the steps when it was hot! Don't forget Mike calling us Boneheads!

  2. My favorite 90's t.v. show was Legends of the Hidden Temple! Hello, Purple Parrots, Silver Snakes, and the Green Monkeys! I wanted to be on that show so bad! My sister and I made up a game with our swing set and called it "Legends of the Hidden Temple"! If I would have had a chance on that show I would have stayed away from the Temple Guards and kicked some butt!

  3. One thing I remember is the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta, GA. My family and I went there for vacation, so I have many memories of this event. However, there are some major events I remember particularly well. I remember the terrorist bombing that took place at Centinnial Olympic Park. I also remember Tom Brands, a native of my hometown and current wrestling coach at Iowa, winning the gold medal. As an eight year old, I will also never forget Izzy, the blue, cartoo-looking mascot of the games.

  4. Every Friday night my two best friends and I would have a sleepover which consisted of watching TGIF on ABC...Sabrina the Teenage Witch, Boy Meets World, etc. We watched Rugrats on commercials. Then we usually ended up watching movies like Casper!!!! Love that movie. I remember we watched Princess Diana's funeral on TV that whole morning, I think it was in 1997? And my brothers and I were obsessed with TY Beanie Babies....when McDonald's had mini ones in Happy Meals she would call the different McDonald's locations in town to find out which Beanie Babies they had that day. Best mom ever. And I remember watching lots of people get slimed on Nickelodeon. Also...Carmen Sandiego! And Oregon Trail is still the best computer game. ever.

  6. So much to remember about the 90's. Started kindergarten in 1992. Riding the bus and listening to Ace of Base. The Red Hot Chili Pepper's video, Under the Bridge with him walking through the streets with his hair all flowin' and Guns-n-Roses video, November Rain. Disney movies like Beauty and the Beast and Aladin. TGIF!!! Fraggle Rock, Care Bears, Gummi Bears(the cartoon!) Not much to dislike about the 90's. Maybe that my sister being named Kimberly automatically made her the pink Power Ranger EVERYTIME!!

  7. The bowl cut was pretty rampant while I was in grade school. Having curly hair, I was never able to get a bowl cut....so I was always the "uncool" kid.

  8. Britney Spears for life, I remember asking my mom why Britney Spears wasn't at the Oscars for her epic film Crossroads! Snap bracelets, giga pets--is that how you spell them?! I also remember my love for Michelle Kwan and my absolute hatred for Tara Lipinski, no idea why I had to hate one of them but I did!
And we can't forget the Clinton/Lewinsky scandal. I look back now and can't even imagine explaining that one to young kids--yikes!
